Canucks Autism Network

In 2018, on behalf of our Employee of the Month Kurt, we donated $50 to the Canucks Autism Network.

As our February Employee of the Month, Kurt wears many hats at Canadian Mattress Recycling. For the year he’s been with us, he has been a helpful employee and a great addition to our team. He asked us to make the donation to the Canucks Autism Network.

Keep reading on to find out more about the Canucks Autism Network and what they do!

How The Organization Started

Did you know that the Canucks Autism Network (CAN) founded by Paolo and Clara Aquilini, co-owners of the Vancouver Canucks?

Their son, who has autism, inspired them to create an organization that would help children like their son. The organization would provide sports and recreation programs, and benefit similar children and teens. Third, families would receive the community and support they need to thrive.

What the Canucks Autism Network Does

Since 2008, the Network delivered hundreds of programs across British Columbia. It too has engaged thousands of children with autism, and their families, through the collaborative play of sports.

These children would be introduced to physical activities such as hockey. The Network also hosts camps and social programs to help these individuals develop lasting friendships with members of their community.

Inspired Action

The organization’s works have influenced and directly impacted thousands of lives in British Columbia, Canada.

For example, back in 2018, with the support of the Vancouver Canucks and the Canucks for Kids Fund, Rogers Arena gained the ‘Autism Aware’ designation.

The Network has helped shed light on how facilities and places can become more accessible for those with autism. For Rogers Arena, that means:

  • Providing sensory kits
  • Opening a quiet room away from sensory activites
  • Training for staff to help those with autism

Conclusion

There is no doubt that the Canucks Autism Network have, and will have, a long-lasting impact for years to come.

That is why we are delighted, on behalf of our employee of our month, Kurt, to donate to the Canucks Autism Network.

At Canadian Mattress Recycling Inc., we truly believe in supporting the communities around us, especially those in British Columbia. Canucks Autism Network
