Ghost fishing is a term coined for the waste fishing nets, rods, and other equipment left behind in the oceans from fishing vessels. Ghost fishing is known to harm, endanger, and kill marine mammals. Ghost Fishing is an organization founded on the principles of removing these ‘ghost’ nets from the ocean. We’re pleased to have donated $318 to this organization back in 2015.

Breakfast for Learning is a leading non-profit organization dedicated to improving children’s nutrition in schools across Canada. Founded in 1992, the foundation supports nutrition programs from British Columbia all the way to Newfoundland and Labrador. Proper nutrition can be one of the problems children face in schools, especially if they can’t start the day with a healthy breakfast.
Research have shown that a healthy breakfast helps children perform better in schools. In the same way, a healthy breakfast can be the most important meal of the day. Yet, too many children still go without one. This can be due to a variety of reasons, including a lack of nutrition programs and healthy food options at school.
Healthy nutrition for children can be a complex subject. Parents and school staff can have a huge impact on how children get nutritious food throughout their school day. But before we can do that, we need to dig into the reasons why so many BC children aren’t receiving healthy food at school.
Here are some reasons:
As an organization, Breakfast for Learning provides grants for schools so they can obtain the equipment, food, and staff needed to provide their students with healthy breakfasts. They also help communities and schools learn about proper nutrition, and how they can achieve that. Finally, Breakfast for Learning supports child nutrition research as well as national meal programs across Canada.
Back in 2015, our company made a $400 donation to the Breakfast for Learning program. Our donation helped ensure that Canadian children get their school days off to a great start. Our donation supports their nutrition awareness programs across BC schools, as well as research and funding for schools to implement healthy food programs. Note that for the 2017 year onwards, the Breakfast for Learning program has been continued by President’s Choice Children’s Charity.
We’re delighted to make a $200 monetary contribution to the Canine Benefactors Society. The organization, based in Burnaby BC, can be seen at local trade shows in Abbotsford.
Founded in 2005, the organization wanted to educate pet owners, children, and public how to interact with pets during an emergency. In addition, they focus on providing equipment to prevent the death of these beloved pets during an emergency such as a house fire.
In particular, house fires could be deadly for pets due to smoke inhalation. Yet not a lot of people know how to rescue pets in these situations. Even some Fire and EMS stations don’t have the proper equipment to help pets in these situations.
Therefore, the Canine Benefactors Society donates animal oxygen masks to these Fire and EMS stations. Equipping these professionals with the necessary tools is the first step to save pets during emergencies. Veterinary oxygen masks save cats, dogs, birds, and other pets. However, these masks can be difficult to come by for fire departments. That’s why the Society hosts fundraisers, making donations on their behalf.
Also, the Society makes it easy for fire and rescue departments know if you have pets at home through the sale of their stickers. These simple tools help let rescue staff know that you have a pet at home – that require attention during an emergency.
If you have a pet at home, do you know how to assist them during an emergency? Be sure to have a strategy to help them out of your home in the case of an emergency. Last but not least, be sure to support organizations such as Canine Benefactors Society that make it possible for firefighters and EMSes to save your pet.
